Upcycling Unconventional Materials + Generating Emotional Durability
For my re-use project, I explored upcycling unconventional materials and generating emotional durability through imbuing garments with concepts in their creation process.
The material I chose was a secondhand tent and the concept I worked with was creating spiritual protection.
The dress has two pieces, the skirt; with sections suspended by cords that hang from the wearer’s shoulders and a bungee-cord hook belt, and the top; with erratically gathered sleeves and a fly-screen cape.
The cape section has been embroidered with a custom set of protective symbols in a map array, developed through my research.
