Structural Expressionism

Christina Suntovski

“Clothing is the material interface between ourselves as bodies, architecture is a larger one” (Steele 2001: 53). An exploration into geometric cording, in which squares and triangles float on a contrasting juxtaposition of shadow and challenge the spatial perceptions of visibility, surveillance, and structural protection within the built environment.

Mirror
“The most significant shifts in fashion have been the innovations that enable it to mirror the functions of urban environments.” (Heeley, 2010)
Place and Space
“Textiles function as the material interface between ourselves as bodies and the world.” (Martin, 1998)
Mobility of the Human Body
“As garments evolve to create self-controlled environments, they amplify fashion’s primary function to shelter the human body.”
(Quinn, 2015)
