A reuse design project centred on modernising workwear utilising waste to influence design. By sourcing waste from the local waste management centre, I was inspired to hybridise workwear with outdoor wear by using traditionally outdoor fabrics and materials in unconventional ways through a contemporary workwear context. The results are a pair of flared carpenter’s pants made from a discarded inflatable mattress, and a cropped, fitted workwear chore jacket with a reversible quality, made from a discarded tent. Design choices were motivated by the activities taught throughout the semester of Fashion Design Reuse and are demonstrative of my learnings.
