Recycled Patchwork Composition

Olivia Renda

The ‘Reflective Journal’ assessment required us to create a tunic using old fabrics and materials. I created a tunic which was covered in a variety of different materials both conventional and unconventional. All of these materials combined made it quite obvious that the materials were being reused.

This got me thinking. Was it possible to create a patchwork composition out of recycled materials that looks high fashion and not repurposed or reused?

Through researching Marine Serre’s practice and using other designer’s work as inspiration, I began to explore this concept through trialing different decorative fabric methods such as gathering, smocking, and dyeing clothes with natural dye.
