For my final garment I was inspired by designers such as Betsey Johnson, Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen. Like Betsey Johnson I wanted to create something that was both beautiful but also had the roughness of the 60’s punk rock scene. The skirt is constructed using 13 metres of bridal tulle, 5 metres of black satin an an under skirt as well as 7 metres of reinforced boning to create and elizabethan style hoop skirt. The finished circumference of the skirt is three metres and when unravelled becomes six metres, there are several embroidered patches that are hand tacked along the top layer of tulle with large amounts of safety pins.
The bustier section of the gown is constructed using 4 metres of boning, 2 metres of black satin, 3 metres of stretch tulle and underwire. Each panel of the bustier has individually been covered in folded back tulle covering black satin. In the seams boning has been placed and edge stitched on either side of the seam. The top front neckline is decorated with ruffled bridal tulle that is 5cm in width and the back is fastened with a black 43cm invisible zip.
