Prototype Outcome

Artist Statement:

This prototype explores the idea that a garment that has been well loved can be rejuvenated through the process of being transformed into yarn. Indeed, this prototype draws on the idea of learning new skills in order to expand a designer’s repertoire and be able to create garments informed by their material’s affordances. These ideas were formed as a result of fast-fashion and people being comfortable with the idea of buying a new set of basic t-shirts of minimal quality for minimal money seasonally. The designer explores the technique of educating herself on the practice of knitting in order to reconstruct t-shirts into a new garment.
