A series of swatches: Exploring patching and Sashiko stitching techniques

Thi Lan Huong Nguyen

For this project, I’m interested in using fabric scraps to create a series of swatches, which can be used to attach temporarily onto clothes as accessories. I explore a few patching methods, along with the delicate decorative Sashiko stitches. What excites me most is the possibilities of arranging materials to create different compositions of patterns, colours and textures. The Sashiko stitching method is really interesting as well, however it’s difficult to do it nicely as it takes time to master this craftsmanship, but it’s worth trying something small and simple.
